heat

Our staff have been working diligently during the summer months to prepare for an excellent start to the school year. We are excited to welcome both our existing and new D102 students on Wednesday!

While we are ready to get the school year underway, the predicted weather makes it necessary to think about how to safely open our schools both on Wednesday and Thursday. We want all parents to know that each building is fully air conditioned and students will be encouraged to stay hydrated throughout the day.

Even though we will have comfortable classrooms, it’s important to keep the following in mind.

Student Preparation:

  • Students should arrive at school with a water bottle and dressed in light clothing.

  • We encourage students to wear a high-SPF sunscreen.

Lunch and Recess:

  • Due to Wednesday being a half day, there will be no lunch or recess that day.

  • On Thursday, we will monitor the heat closely and possibly limit students' time outside or shift to indoor activities for the entire lunch and recess.

PE Classes:

  • For the first two days of school, all PE classes and specials will be in indoor activities along with orientations.

  • Outdoor activities will begin Friday once the temperatures are at a more acceptable level.

Bus Information:

  • Our bus company, First Student, will ensure all bus windows are open for maximum ventilation.

  • They have agreed to suspend their no food or water policy for this week so that students can stay hydrated during the ride to school.

Despite the warmer than usual weather, we are excited about the start of the year and looking forward to seeing all students on Wednesday.
