Mrs. Amy Grieve

Principal, Congress Park School

May 26, 2023

Dear Congress Park Community,

We are in the final days of the 2022-2023 school year. This has been a memorable year! Congratulations to our CP students and staff on a wonderful year of growth and connection! Please make sure that your students are coming to school ready to learn for the final days of school.

Our annual Congress Park Field Day will take place on Wednesday, June 7th. We are looking forward to celebrating our accomplishments and spending time in community with students, teachers, and many parent volunteers!

Congratulations to our sixth graders on a fantastic year! They have been kind leaders and passionate learners. While I know that they will be missed next year, there are many exciting moments of growth around the corner at Park Junior High. We will be having our 6th grade clap out on Thursday, June 8th. This will begin at 11:00 and will end at approximately 11:05. Parents are welcome to wait outside in the parking lot by Door #2 to give our almost 7th graders a congratulatory cheer as they exit for the last time as Congress Park students. Sixth grade parents, please reach out to your child's teachers with any questions about upcoming 6th grade events.

All student choice books were due TODAY!

This week all students, regardless of the grade, received a printed list or checked their online Destiny record to view all of the books checked out under their name.  Any books that students are finished with we would like returned but your child may keep any books that they are still actively reading.

Please ask your child about their library books and begin to help your child look for their library books at home. If you are unsure of the title(s) your child has checked out please contact Mrs. Spatzek (spatzekka@dist102.k12.il.us) with the following format:

Homeroom Teacher

Child’s FIRST and LAST Name

Any materials not returned by the end of the day on Monday, June 12th will be declared lost and the replacement cost of each item will be entered into PushCoin.  As always, if a book is found after it has been entered into PushCoin, we can credit your account.

Summer Reading:

A sneak peek of summer reading opportunities can be found on our LRC Canvas course under Quick Links then Public Library.  More opportunities and links will be added as they are received.  There are some amazing events both in person and online sponsored by our local libraries! I know I cannot wait to participate in many of the summer events and programs with my own children.  Best of all, all of the events are always FREE!

Look for a bookmark from La Grange Park’s library with a QR code for even easier access to their program!

Don’t forget that in addition to our district's year long safe, credible database subscriptions and our ebook and audiobook SORA collection, our local libraries have even more online resources to choose from so that your child can continue to discover and learn new things all summer long.

Ms. Gibbs has been a part of the CP community for over 25 years. The core of her role extends beyond Congress Park itself. She has been the link between Congress Park families and our community resources. After being approached by several members of the community, it became apparent that a community  “farewell” was necessary in order to bring community members and organizations together in Ms. Gibbs's name.

Magnabosco Family Thank You For Peter T. Magnabosco’s Memorial Plaque

It is with great gratitude and admiration that we thank the Congress Park School Student Council for their hard work and generosity to honor our beloved Peter T. Magnabosco who passed away in October 2021.

We are tremendously appreciative of your thoughtfulness and outstanding candy-gram/flower-gram fundraising efforts to remember Mr. Magnabosco, who was affectionately known as “Mr. Mag'', with a plaque. Our hearts are forever warmed by your connection to him, and to us, through this amazing tribute. We know that he would be very proud of you all, and deeply cherish this commemoration close to his heart.

We would also like to thank teachers Mr. Joe Giordano, Mrs. Peg Adamczyk and Ms. Michaeleen Nutley for their coordination and support to help make this remembrance possible, Principal Amy Grieve, and Mr. Gomez, Head Custodian, for hanging the plaque by the gymnasium door.

We hope that when everyone walks by the plaque, they are inspired by Mr. Mag’s smile and encouraging words, and can feel the devotion he had to Congress Park students, parents, teachers and staff, and the larger District 102 community.

While we miss him every day, we know that he would want us all to be comforted by the quote on his plaque: “Never, never give up! Follow your dreams no matter what, and be kind to a fault”.

Thank you all again from the bottom of our hearts,

Gail (Mr. Mag’s wife), Jennifer (Mr. Mag’s daughter) and Peter (Mr. Mag’s son)
