District 102 Families,

We had a great, albeit warm, first week of school! Thank you for making sure your students were ready to start back strong. The entire staff is very excited to have all your children back in the classroom.

I would like to add to this excitement by sharing a couple of items discussed at last week’s Board of Education meeting.

District 102 Strategic Planning

In the spirit of continuous improvement and maintaining high expectations, the Board and the administration believe it is time to evaluate the road ahead and set deliberate and thoughtful goals for achievement and growth through the renewal of our D102 Strategic Plan. The current plan has been the district’s road map for the last five years. The district would like to begin this process in earnest later this winter. We plan to engage all our stakeholder groups including students, parents, our community partners, and staff. A formal invitation for parent and community participation will happen later this school year.

Invitation to Join D102 Board Committees

In addition to Strategic Plan discussions, the Board identified its Committees for this school year.  The district is seeking participants for each of these committees. We welcome both existing and new voices into the conversations to discuss progress on previous initiatives and provide new ideas. Please complete the form below to be considered for a committee.

The 23-24 Board of Education Committees are:
  • The Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) - Focus: Student Growth, Achievement and Engagement

  • The Financial Advisory Committee (FAC) - Focus: District Finances, Operations and Facilities

  • The Committee for Equity and Minority Achievement (CEMA) - Focus: Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

  • The Special Needs Advisory Panel (SNAP) - Focus: District goals and operations related to Special Education Services

Request to join a D102 Board of Education Committee for the 23-24 school year: Form

Thank you for considering joining a District committee, and I look forward to meeting and working with many of you!

Sincerely,

Chris Covino
